This film shows the experience of many that have lost loved ones during the holidays. There are several plots going on. One of them is the breakdown of a marriage. I would have liked this film better if Mr. Lowe had put more into it. He seems to have very little emotion and even his expressions have little variation. The other actors do a very good job, especially the little boy who is very good. He was very well directed and gave an outstanding performance in a role very difficult for anyone, and more so for someone so young.
Not a great movie!!!!
Rating Point :1 Helpful Point :0
This movie was totally unrealistic. The whole show takes place within a short period yet four people fall in love, a little boy wins the hearts of two people, and a liver transplant gets diagnosed, an operation takes place and a recovery all just a few weeks before Christmas. It is not realistic at all. The writers didnt even show time passing to make it more believable. Also the man goes home because he decides he doesnt want to be a doctor anymore. Well it seemed like he lived a long ways away (at least in another town). Yet when someone is sick he takes them to his hospital where he worked even though it is a life and death situation. Also the little boy goes to the hospital to see his teacher and how does he get there? The whole movie is like that: very unrealistic.

My 11 yr. old son and I watched this movie to get into the spirit of Christmas. Well, we ended up needing a box of tissues! It is a nice story, but it is sad. Many people unfortunately, do experience such holidays, but there is some good that comes out of heartache...

I was very disappointed with this movie. If I could have given it no stars I would have. I really loved The Christmas Shoes. That was a well done and touching movie. I can only agree with all the other negative reviews on here 100% about the story line etc. It was just not a well done movie at all.

They Drive By Night (Snap Case)

Description
George Raft and Humphrey Bogart share a driving ambition in They Drive by Night, a feisty tale of brothers trying to make a go of their independent trucking enterprise. Ann Sheridan plays a truck-stop waitress who can dish both the daily special and the patter. And Ida Lupino is the headstrong executive who mixes business and romance with murder. With Bogart again riding shotgun en route to leading-man stardom (a stature he would achieve the following year) and Raft handling the wheel in one of his best roles of the decade, this fine example of Warner Bros. social-conscience filmmaking (directed by Raoul Walsh) proved a sturdy vehicle for both actors. The movie proved even more fortuitous for Lupino. Her courtoom scene of babbling derangement made her a celebrated "overnight" sensation that resulted in a seven-year studio contract for her. Year: 1940 Director: Raoul Walsh Starring: George Raft, Ann Sheridan, Ida Lupino, Humphrey Bogart, Special Feature: Original Theatrical Trailer B&W/93 Mins.
Amazon.com
By turns hard-nosed and ribald, They Drive by Night smashes through a vintage Warner Bros. yarn about truck drivers, the Depression, and one duplicitous dame. The opening reels are a forceful look at the dangerous lives of independent truckers (George Raft and Humphrey Bogart as brothers--Bogie in the supporting role, though he would soon eclipse Raft in Hollywood), battling the system and the economy. The final section veers into a less exciting murder frame-up, but Ida Lupino is so delicious as the Black Widow, it works. The robust humor of director Raoul Walsh dominates the film, with some truly hilarious double entendres aimed at outfoxing the censors. At the center of many such one-liners is Ann Sheridan, as a waitress who slings more than hash. Its close to being a classic, and the road sequences are as vital as those in The Grapes of Wrath, made the same year. --Robert Horton

Customer ReviewsRaft, Lupino,Bogart and Sheridan
Rating Point :4 Helpful Point :1
Thinking this was a Humphrey Bogart movie, I put this in and what I found was a tale of two brothers trying to make it in the trucking business. George Raft plays the other brother and it is George who is really the star here. Early in the movie the brothers make a pit stop in a roadside diner and meet waitress Ann Sheridan who we learn in the auxilary featurette was known as the "ummph girl" back then. George falls for her and she for him but that takes a while to sort itself out(its funny to hear Cassie(Sheridan) referred to as "red" in a black and white film). We watch the brothers struggle to gain a footing in the highly competitive truckers world and Georges fending off of the advances of a woman who is clearly no good for him-and that would be the dubious Ida Lupino who by pictures end makes a REAL star for herself.
Somewhere about 3/4 of the way through the story, Humphreys brother role is shrunk into the background setting the stage for the grand finale involving Lupino and Raft.
In short this is a terrific movie and the disc includes the excellent featurette on the making of the picture and all involved. As a personal aside, looks like theyve made an Ann Sheridan fan out of me!
Fine-but its 2 different movies in one!
Rating Point :4 Helpful Point :2
"They Drive by Night" dawns as a hard core trucker yarn. Bogey and George Raft are brothers trying to hack it in a tough racket and dreaming of making it big. TDN soars when on the ground. Viewers get a gritty close up view of the rigors faced by independent drivers scrambling for loads and avoiding rip offs and unsavory characters. Then Bogey loses his arm in an accident, leaving GR to support his brother and wife. GR lands a straight job and this reviewer believes the film loses focus. Blue collars are exchanged for white shirts and dinner parties. A definite "complication" arises when Ida Lupino, the wife of Rafts boss, makes a play for him. A clumsy murder plot develops, straining credibility. This reviewer believes that by the time TDN reaches its resolution, the film has lost its way. The final call here is that the "over the road", early part of the movie easily rates 5 stars, but the latter, more "sophisticated" second half rates only 3. That averages out to 4 stars- which is not bad if one concedes that TDN is essentially 2 movies in one. Viewer interest may be elevated by the knowledge that the 1940 TDN was one of Bogeys last films before the release of "The Maltese Falcon", "High Sierra" and "Casablanca" and his climb to major stardom.
Fatal Traction
Rating Point :3 Helpful Point :1
Before Humphrey Bogart was an A-list star, and achieved silver screen immortality through "The Maltese Falcon" and "Casablanca",he paid his dues in this cheesy B film noir about independent truck drivers struggling with dire financial circumstances and a femme fatale. Its the kind of story Dashiel Hammett would write if he were parodying his own thrillers.
Bogart and George Raft star as brothers, struggling in their truck driving business. Ida Lupino stars as a desperate housewife, trapped in an unhappy marriage, and enamored of Bogart. Lupino connives her way to get rid of her husband and get Bogart...but not all goes as planned. In a case of interesting anachronism, automatic doors are crucial to the plot. Sort of like the ticking clock in Shakespeares "Julius Caesar." Lupino ends up going batty after her conscience gets the best of her,and the brothers rejoice in the end.
"They Drive By Night" is proof that not all old movies are Golden Age classics, and that not all great stars always choose great scripts. Its cheesy and campy. It was before Bogart reached leading man status, and is a fascinating, fun artifact.
EXCELLENT EARLY EXPERIMENT IN SOCIAL REALISM MELTS DOWN INTO EMBRYONIC IDA LUPINO WITNESS STAND CONFESSION
Rating Point :5 Helpful Point :5
This was Humphreys first film in which he got to show some complexity and he still only gets fourth billing under George Raft (a former ballroom dancer made movie hard guy who here, like Bogart, for the first time does not have to play here a hard gangster but a human and honest being), Anne Sheridan and the BRITISH Ida Lupino (gee, I never realized she was British - guess I was thinking the great Carmen Miranda!)
Real social realism drama on the ins and outs of being a small independent trucker making truck payments (with a great and mercifully NOT stereotypically anti-SEmitic) and getting to the loading dock first and fastest by driving all night without a apparent chemical edge except caffeine and burgers, gets destroyed by an unbelievable love folly driven by Ida Lupino trying to cheat with an unmoveable George Raft against her really irresponsible and dim witted older trucking mogul husband played wonderfully by the father of Gilligans skipper, from whom the skipper inherited his dopey generous grin and large gestures and sweet humanity.
Many of the great walk ons do not get any credit here, including Idas African American butler and maid, who despite having several lines, remains anonymous. Also the Mexican trucker whose one line repeated several times is: "Come on we go." until he and his also excellently played partner go over a cliff asleep. This Mexican guy (who cared about his so-called legality back then?) is really really great, a tough actor, very modern, but not named. In fact by the standards of the day none of these really good actors are encouraged to act in a racist nor stereotypical manner, but real, rounded human beings we all may identify with. The director must be praised for this as well as the fine anonymous actors. The only racist representation in fact nay be the Irish American pinball playing apparent driver never seen behind a wheel and I dont think you would ever want to see him behind a wheel. His big line is falling down drunk while sousing: "Its a shame to see the boss make a public disgrace of himself." Apparently a big laugh at the time, or on a more dismal than normal sketh at Saturday Night Live.
Any way, and in brief since they are closing up this Mexican internet cafe here Thanksgiving evening, this could have been a wonderful experience in cinematic social realism exploring every aspect of an independent truckers life of that time, from financing to family worries to facing down the major corporations, but instead it gets hijacked by the Ida Lupino stuff and Raft inheriting the trucking firm from rags to riches. No way. After that its kind of like looking for social realism in that basically very dishonest On the Waterfront (Special Edition).
Ida Lupinos nervous breakdown was a train wreck, or truck wreck, waiting to happen and a psychological study that goes way over the top. The evil electric eye gate opener was just hitting supermarkets at the time and freaking everyone out apparently. Her overwrought witness stand confession found distant echo decades later on the grim Perry Mason Show.
This film could have easily been King Vidors wonderful Our Daily Bread & Other Films of the Great Depression but I guess there is something in it for everyone, from a glimpse of reality to a screwball comedy romance to a film noir drunken breakdown. Just avoid the extra short subject included among the extras, the one with a silent Bogart walkon calming down the dead end kids but basically about discoveries in the studio commisary but which following Warners prejudices wastes too much time making fun of the great Eric Von Stroheim and praising a really bad actress singer dancer, etc., who must have been Warners flavor of the month. The directors bio extra is pretty good though.
Good movie gone bad, fell of the road somewhere along the line. Get out the popcorn and enjoy, and try not to fall asleep at the wheel. Get a load of Bogey waking up startled every time, like a guy sleeping at the wheel jerking awake. And get a load of his reference to Grand Illusion - Criterion Collection and Jean Gabins one-armed waving of an empty fork, except here no one offers to cut his meat for him. This must have been Bogarts own homage to Stroheim.
Warners assembly line film with OK extras
Rating Point :3 Helpful Point :2
As Leonid Maltin states in the "making of" featurette included in this DVD, Warner Brothers were experts at recycling their scripts and this film combines 2 genres - working class drama with high tone emotional melodrama, the latter cribbed from the 1935 "Bordertown".
"They Drive by Night" tells of the Fabrini brothers, George Raft and Humphrey Bogart, who set themselves up in the trucking business. The film benefits from a snappy script, sharp direction from Raoul Walsh and an endless and excellent supporting cast. The negatives are the wooden Raft in the lead (in fairness, this is one of his better performances) and an over-the-top Ida Lupino, who looks sensational, in the role of an obsessive wife who chases after him. Lupinos performance won her a Warners contract but I find her hysterical and unconvincing, particularly in the famous scene in the court when she breaks down. Bette Davis played the same scene much more subtly 5 years earlier. The best performances for me are by Humphrey Bogart, much more subtle than Raft, and Ann Sheridan who delivers some great lines as a hash house waitress then moves to the warmth and genuine appeal which she showed in such films as "City for Conquest". Her acting shows far more range than the one note Lupino.
The DVDs print is good and the package includes a technicolour short film set in the Warners Studios with a parody of Michael Curtiz and a nauseating plot about a waitress in the commissary achieving a star part. The film includes some dud songs and while the colour is good, the rest is just awful.
The DVD is best value if purchased as part of one of the Humphrey Bogart collections.

Description
A devil-may-care test pilot volunteers to be shrunk and injected in to a rabbit as part of a top secret experiment. When industrial spies steal one of the two microchips needed to reverse the process, the pilot is accidentally injected into the body of a timid supermarket clerk. the two, along with the pilots girlfriend, have 24 hours to find the stolen microchip before the pilot uses up his oxygen supply.

Distractingly loose but clever, this 1987 comedy by Joe Dante (Gremlins, Matinee) stars Martin Short as a hypochondriac and Dennis Quaid as a miniaturized test pilot who is accidentally injected into him. Taking a page or two (or a hundred) from the classic science fiction movie Fantastic Voyage, Innerspace details the adventures of traveling through the human bodys complicated systems, though in this case, it proves an unusual way for two characters to forge a bond. Dantes endless imagination goes into overdrive here, but the film is more gimmick than anything else and ultimately feels a bit hollow. Fans of Short or Quaid might like it more than most, though Dantes hardcore fans will also appreciate seeing his stock players Dick Miller and Kevin McCarthy. --Tom Keogh

This is a very engaging little farce, with terrific physical comedy from Martin Short. Dennis Quaids talents may be wasted a bit, as hes stuck in a cramped capsule for most of the film, but he gets plenty of wisecracking in. Nothing deep or profound here, just well-crafted silliness.

Spielbergs Fantastic Voyage
Rating Point :5 Helpful Point :2
This movie was released in 1987...and many movies from the 80s show their 20 year age but this movie does not show its age. As a true testament to Spielberg and the great actors, this movie has aged very little. If it werent for the very young Meg Ryan, Dennis Quaid, Martin Short and Robert Picardo, you could say that this movie is a fairly recent release.
The premise is simple. Dennis Quaid is a test pilot who has been passed up for the space program and instead is picked up by an obscure government program to pilot a submarine that is going to be miniaturized and injected into a rabbit. He has some personal problems with Meg Ryan and she dumps him. He gets miniaturized but before he can be injected into the rabbit the bad guys break into the lab to steal the technology that miniaturizes people. A lab assistant escapes with a minaturized Quaid in his pod in a syringe. Before he is killed, the assistant injects Quaid into an unsuspecting hypocondriac, Martin Short. Quaids pod has the capability to interface with the optic nerve and the eardrum of the person hes injected in so he can "talk" to his host and "see" what he sees. And so, begins this wonderful adventure to get Quaid back to normal size by getting the stolen technology back, get Quaid back together with Meg Ryan, to get the bad guys, and to prove that Martin Short is not crazy hearing Quaid in his head. I wont spoil the movie from there on -- its a great ride. Oh, I will add that somewhere along the way we bump into Robert Picardo who plays "The Cowboy," a wonderfully memorable performance by Robert Picardo as some kind of technology mercenary -- Picardo commands the silver screen whenever hes on camera --definitely worth watching for just that.
This movie was great back in the 80s and still is a great movie. Spielberg did a great job making it timeless. The special effects are still good today and Quaid, Short, Meg Ryan, Robert Picardo are great in this movie.
The movie felt very much like a modernized Fantastic Voyage -- being about the inner space (the human body) only with a romantic comedy action adventure movie mixed in.
This is definitely worth watching -- its an "A" Movie from an "A" Director with "A" Actors. I will also say that this is a more innocent movie from a more innocent time in moviemaking which is a welcome break from the overly "cool" and overly "sheik" personas in todays movies. It is a Fantastic Voyage. If you grew up in the 80s, youll love this.
If youre wondering what the feel of this movie is -- its very similar to Back to the Future in terms of flavor with about the same amount of adventure, a dash less comedy and a pinch more romantic comedy. This movie inspired rides at the major theme parks so it was a major production. If you have Back to the Future, you need to have Inner Space.

I KNEW BETTER... : It's sad to watch memories of the real deal fade in to a middle-finger t-shirt, Walk the Line dvd, "I love Cocaine Blues", punk/rockabilly anti-hero oblivion in these 'modern' times. If anyone ever reads this and doesn't understand that statement or becomes offended by it... well??? There is memory a friend of mine shared with me of Johnny and June playing back in either the late 80's or early 90's. They both stayed(unexpectedly) over 2 1/2 hrs after their show ended to meet and listen to each and every person that wanted to speak with them. The show was held at small Otoe bingo hall here in Oklahoma. My friend's memory of their conversation, the feeling that Johnny and June left him and ,of course, June's kiss on his cheek were held in high regard amongst his many reflections. Moments like those and the true spirit of the 2 folks that brought them to millions of people on this earth are not documented at all in this motion picture. A waste.

Three Amigos!

Amazon.com
Three Western stars (Martin Short, Steve Martin, Chevy Chase) from Hollywood silent films go to Mexico for what they assume will be a publicity appearance, and find theyve actually been summoned to fight a local bandit. John Landis directed this 1986 comedy with self-conscious artifice, and its hard to get into his self-congratulatory joke. Even the three main stars, brilliant comics all, cant sustain anything funny in it. --Tom Keogh

Three Amigos! is a 1986 comedy western film, produced by George Folsey, Jr., and Lorne Michaels. John Landis directed for HBO Films. Steve Martin, Chevy Chase and Martin Short star. The movie was written by Steve Martin, Lorne Michaels, and Randy Newman. Randy Newman contributed several original songs, including "The Ballad of the Three Amigos" and "My Little Buttercup", while the musical score was composed by Elmer Bernstein. It was shot in Simi Valley, California,Coronado National Forest,Old Tucson Studios, and Hollywood.
Cast
Steve Martin as Lucky Day, the de facto leader of the Amigos
Chevy Chase as Dusty Bottoms, the dimmest of the three Amigos, and a pianist
Martin Short as Ned Nederlander, a former child star and a genuine quick-draw artist
Patrice Camhi (aka Patrice Martinez) as Carmen, a beautiful villager of Santo Poco who summons the Three Amigos
Alfonso Arau as El Guapo, the evil leader of the Mexican bandits
Tony Plana as Jefe, El Guapos right-hand man
Joe Mantegna as film producer Harry Flugleman
PLOT
In the year 1916, three prissy silent film actors are fired after they demand a higher salary for their popular "Three Amigos" western films. Later that day they receive a plea from the villagers of Santo Poco who have been under siege from the notorious villain El Guapo. Mistaking the plea for an acting job, the actors steal their costumes and travel to Santo Poco. The villagers give the actors a heros welcome, believing them to be bona fide gunfighters. After a nearly fatal confrontation with El Guapo, the actors realize the danger to which they are now subject. They panic and plan a hasty retreat, leaving the villagers at the mercy of El Guapo. They soon return to the village and, upon seeing the devastation caused by the bandits, decide to step up and become the Three Amigos "for real."
The Amigos make several disastrous attempts to thwart the bandits, including infiltration of El Guapos birthday party and seeking of mystical aid via a singing bush and an invisible swordsman. They then ride an airplane, piloted by Ned, back to the village. Lucky Day (Steve Martin) delivers a speech about conquering an individuals personal "El Guapo", whether that be a lack of self-confidence or an actual killer by that name. They then discover that the villagers greatest skill is sewing. The Amigos organize the villagers, using their sewing skills to create an army of "Amigos" by replicating their mariachi costumes. The villagers defeat the bandits by appearing clad in the costumes and shooting from all sides, creating the illusion that the Amigos are everywhere. Thereafter, the Amigos ride off into the sunset, intending to become the heroes theyd once only portrayed on film.
Trivia from ...
(1)Alfonso Arau, who plays El Guapo, was one of the main villains in The Wild Bunch (1969).(2)The movie billboard behind Steve Martin when he is trying to break into the studio to retrieve the Three Amigos costumes is an advertisement for the movie "The Dueling Cavalier" starring Miss Reynolds. Debbie Reynolds starred in Singin in the Rain (1952) in which the talkie movie they were trying to make was called, "The Dueling Cavalier".(3)Lucky Day (Steve Martin) is the only one of the Amigos to get shot in the movie. Once in his left shoulder, and once in his right foot.(4)While singing the opening song the Three Amigos simultaneously hold that high note for 14 seconds.(5)The bats hunted by Ned, is actually fried bacon, served on skewers.(6)John Landis states, had Martin Short turned down the role of Ned, he would have then approached Rick Moranis to play the role.(7)Chevy Chases favorite film of his own.(8)Nederlander is Dutch for Dutchman.
Incredibly Overrated

I didnt see this movie in theatres because I didnt think it looked that good. They couldnt even pull a decent trailer together, as I recall.
But I heard people say good things about it. And they kept repeating, "You HAVE to see the singing cactus scene!" I kept hearing that the same say I used to hear, "You have to see the campfire scene in BLAZING SADDLES!" or "You have to see the automatic pilot in AIRPLANE!"
So I saw THE THREE AMIGOS. Theres a campfire scene and the three leads sing and strum a guitar next to the campfire. And a cactus joins in and sings. Thats it. There was nothing more to it. For some reason, people found this really funny.
I suppose if they found that to be a knee-slapper, the rest of this comedy--as arid as the Mexican landscape in the background--would be equally as hilarious.
I like the cast, I like John Landis...but this was not funny.
absurdly funny
Rating Point :5 Helpful Point :0
Chevy Chase, Steve Martin, and Martin Short.....(the three funny men of comedy) in a movie together. What could be better? I cant believe they havent made more movies together. I admit, the plot is a little "out there", but the 3 actors pull it off beautifully. For example, theres a scene where the 3 are in a desert and Chevy Chase and Steve Martin are singing to Martin Short trying to make him fall asleep and all the animals in the desert start singing. Originally youd be rolling your eyes but with the 3 actors, I found myself roaring with laughter. I just found it hilarious.
Now, if you like slapstick comedy and am able to not take a movie too seriously but can appreciate the humor, plus a fan of these 3 actors, youd love this one. Its a classic.
Great movie, bad DVD

First off, its a great movie. But this DVD is one of the worst DVDs I have seen of a major motion picture.
There are no special features, but its actually the print of the film that is a problem.
First off during the opening titles (and a few other times in the film) the movie shakes and bobs up and down. Then during many of the shots, the far left of the picture has a black line over the print (it looks like the scene is fading out... but only on the far left of the picture and only in particular shots.)
Finally, about 3/4 of the way through the closing credits the dvd stops and returns to the menu. No kidding!
Anyway, its the only DVD available right now (4-2-08) and these problems wont destroy your enjoyment of the film, but I thought they were worth noting.)
So, if the price sounds good, buy it for the great film and look past the DVD problems.
The amigos ride again!

Good Girl Gone Bad: Reloaded

Album Description
In one of the biggest jumps ever recorded in the history of the Billboard Hot 100 chart, Rihannas newest single "Take A Bow" rockets from #53 to #1 this week. "Take A Bow" also debuts at #1-bullet on the Billboard Hot Digital Songs Chart with a phenomenal first week of 266,696 scans. The song was written by fellow Def Jam artist Ne-Yo and produced by Stargate, the same team responsible for Rihannas "Unfaithful" (of 2006), and "Hate That I Love You," her Top 10 duet with Ne-Yo released late last year. "Take A Bow" raises the curtain on the upcoming new CD U.S.release of Rihannas GOOD GIRL GONE BAD: RELOADED. The new configuration arrives in stores on June 17th - the week after the album officially marks its historic 52nd week on the Billboard 200 albums chart.
The original 12-song CD version of GOOD GIRL GONE BAD - source of the non-stop string of hit singles that began with the MTV VMA and Grammy Award-winning global #1 hit "Umbrella" (featuring Jay-Z), then "Shut Up and Drive," "Hate That I Love You" (featuring Ne-Yo), and the current "Dont Stop the Music" - will now be augmented with three bonus tracks: 1) "Take A Bow" 2) a cover version of Maroon 5s "If I Never See Your Face Again" (featuring Maroon 5) and 3) "Disturbia."
GOOD GIRL GONE BAD (released June 5, 2007) was the third album release in less than two years by multi-platinum MTV VMA, Grammy, and American Music Award winning artist - and CoverGirl spokesperson - Rihanna. It followed-up 2006s RIAA platinum A Girl Like Me, containing the back-to-back hits, "S.O.S." and "Unfaithful" and her RIAA gold debut from 2005, Music Of the Sun, featuring the worldwide smash, "Pon De Replay."

Good Girl Gone Bad - Reloaded

Wasnt a big Rihanna fan when she first burst on the scene. Once I found out she was hooked with Jay-Z, became more interested in her music. This album validates that she is a superstar pop talent who can test the boundaries of the music. It also doesnt hurt that Ne-Yo wrote some of her songs. "Disturbia" is ABSOLUTELY my favorite Rihanna song to date(with "Take a Bow" next on the list). Rihannas songs always have slamming beats, she is obviously beautiful and she is fierce. This album proves it. I love it.
Truthfully Overexposed
Rating Point :2 Helpful Point :0
There is no question about the lack of really great albums this past year. It is very unfortunate that a lot of songs really didnt shine heart and soul. That is no doubt about it, with so many artists making poor albums that really felt like they gave more, that felt like it was a bunch of lemons. Rihanna is definitely no acception. After the overexposure of A Good Girl Gone Bad, she sadly hadnt made that opportunity shine after the overexposure of A Good Girl Gone Bad last year, with so much under her so-called Umbrella, it is very hard to say that not only wasnt it a good album, but she overexposed that appeal in 2008, with her re-editioned album. But let me put it this way, there really is nothing but very little that stays strong under this umbrella.
Rihannas 2008, A Good Girl Gone Bad: Reloaded is a expanded edition of Rihannas album from 2007. The collection of songs doesnt feel like it is a sparkle in the eye, but a lack of heart and mind. The collection of songs feels the mostly the same as it did before if you bought the original version of the album. While you have mostly the same songs as before like Umbrella, Shut Up & Drive the Michael Jackson-sampled Dont Stop The Music, which sampled Jacksons Thriller hit Wanna Be Startin Something, and her recent track Rehab, which feels like the soul has been battered, and lacking splice. The extra song songs dont add any glimmer either. The extra songs like Take A Bow, which its lyrics felt like it was less than heartfelt saying to a man that he is ugly when he cries was just sad, the lagging Disturbia, and a made-up collaboration of If I Never See Your Face Again with Maroon 5. The feeling on that cover not only lacks any chemistry she has with Adam Levine from Maroon 5, but the song just was better when Maroon 5 originally recorded it on their own.
While the only song I did like was her collaboration with Ne-Yo on Hate That I Love You from the original album, I wasnt really that impressed with Rihannas A Good Girl Gone Bad. As for the expanded version of that album, A Good Girl Gone bad: Reloaded, it sadly does dissapoint me. There really has been a lack of great albums this past year, and this one was a miss to my eyes. Honestly, Rihanna hasnt made a lot of great songs this past year. I really think she needs to find a better sense of making better songs that are heartfelt, than just feel flimsy under her umbrella.

Amazon.com essential recording
Anyone looking for the key to Abbas enduring appeal should look no further than "Voulez Vous" and "Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! (A Man After Midnight)" for their answer. There was an innocence to the Swedish quartet, even when they were singing about one-night stands and the invitations to them. Gold establishes that the band, while appreciated as campy, were actually multifaceted in their execution. "S.O.S." has a raw urgency in its chorus, and "Does Your Mother Know" draws its energy from classic 50s rock & roll. Likewise, you dont have to be Priscilla to swoon over "Mamma Mia" or "Dancing Queen." And when it comes to drama, those soaring vocals on "The Winner Takes It All" turn the song into a bitter anthem of every relationship that has ever fallen apart. The much-covered "Lay All Your Love on Me" is practically epic. --Steve Gdula

Take a Chance on This
Rating Point :5 Helpful Point :1
When it comes to lively, easy to listen music, ABBA does the trick. For anyone who has not yet seen the film or musical "Momma Mia," this includes the best pieces from that musical. ABBA has found a universal formula to share pop music and make it enjoyable and timeless. The collection does, however, lack two or three of their other important hits.
The 70s live again.

I graduated from HS in 1977 and was in college through the early 1980s, and that means that I lived this music the first time around. Its upbeat and pretty good for dancing. With the release of the movie musical "Mama Mia!" ABBAs music is staging a mainstream comeback. Now my daughter (a HS senior) and my wife play this music on their own. Ive been a below-the-radar ABBA listener for at least the past 20 years, with ABBA tracks finding their way onto exercise playlists on my iPod.
The collection on ABBA GOLD is probably the best single-disc collection of ABBAs greatest hits that has been released to date:
1. Dancing Queen
2. Knowing Me, Knowing You
3. Take a Chance on Me
4. Mamma Mia
5. Lay All Your Love on Me
6. Super Trouper
7. I Have a Dream
8. The Winner Takes It All
9. Money, Money, Money
10. S.O.S.
11. Chiquitita
12. Fernando
13. Voulez-Vous
14. Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! (A Man After Midnight)
15. Does Your Mother Know
16. One of Us
17. The Name of the Game
18. Thank You for the Music
19. Waterloo
Most of these tracks were international hits, many of them reaching high on the charts in the USA during ABBAs heyday.
I remember hearing and dancing to many of these tunes in discos (oooh, thats a happy and painful memory).
If you havent listened to this music for a while, be prepared for a series of triggers to all kinds of memories. If you are just starting to listen to ABBA, get ready for memories in the making.
This is a 5-star flashback to the age of disco.

Airborne is best at what it is: an afternoon delight
Rating Point :3 Helpful Point :0
Be it a guilty pleasure, a rare delight, or a visual delicatessen, call "Airborne" what you want. However, one thing it is not is a bad movie. Sure the dialogue is a bit campy and dated, the whole cool of it is gone, but this is a movie driven on pure nostalgia. Come to think of it, this might be a movie for a certain crowd: those born prior to 1990.
Mitchell Goosen (Shane McDermott) is a California skater and surfer, who spends most of his times eating burritos or chasing waves. When his parents are offered an opportunity to study in Australia, Mitchell finds himself in Cincinnati, Ohio. Of course, this means: no waves. Instead, Mitchell discovers a whole new way of life.
With rising stars (Seth Green, Jack Black), "Airborne" is filled with a unique ensemble cast, that all work in the funny yet awkward scenarios. Shane McDermott is a likable protagonist and while his story is quite surreal, anyone whos ever been to high school or a small town can relate.
The score by Stewart Copeland is phenomenal and works with some of the breathtaking visuals, specifically the ending which involves an all out race between skaters down, "The Devils Backbone."
Hopefully this is released on DVD as the videocassette is expensive for such a dated platform. Nevertheless, anyone with cable or HBO is bound to catch this rare film. To be honest, they really dont make movies like this anymore.
Check it out over the break.

i hear its hard to get this film in english and i searched 4 years for this film. i just simply gave up. but 1 day i typed in the movie tittle in my ares galaxy keyword search engine and actually found it. so i downloaded the file (i think it took a day) and burned it to a blank cd-r disc, and it worked on my dvd player. and yes it was a dvd rip version. i recommend buying a toshiba dvd player since they can read data discs. the program i burned it with was realplayer (windows wouldnt do it). so let me know how it goes. btw ares is a peer-to-peer file sharing program. yes i do love this movie.

A Nice Show
Rating Point :4 Helpful Point :0
The best thing about this movie is the acting. All of the charactors filled their parts so well that you forget its a made up story. Carla Gugino convincingly potrays Emilie Thomson - a strong young woman trying to do whats best for her "kids" while being torn between duty and love in a society where red tape sometimes gets in the way of human needs. Her romance with the young police officer, Nathan Blair, was touching. I just wish they had taken the extra mile with the faith thing. Patty Duke played as an angel, but there was nothing about God or Jesus. Its weird how you can talk about angels and no one gets upset, but if you talk about God and Jesus, some people will lable you as religious and narrow minded. I also wish that they hadnt made Nathan "turn" on Emilie when he discovered her true identity. This movie is too short for that to be put in without messing up Nathans charactor development. It certainly didnt do anything to help with the progression of his and Emilies relationship. Probably the only reason why they put it in there was for a suspense ellement, and to teach a sound bite lesson on forgiveness . . . but I think it would have been better without. Thus said, it was a nice show and Id reccomend it.
outstanding family movie
Rating Point :5 Helpful Point :5
This is one (affirmative) family movie that will keep you on the edge of your seat on the first viewing. Will they be caught? Will the children be taken away from their aunt and given into the care of strangers? The fact that the man interested in the aunt is the local police captain adds to the tension. The resolution is credible and miraculous only for those who believe that nothing good ever happens.
This movie does a good job of presenting life in a small town without turning the town into a make-believe toy town, as so many Disney movies do. And the children are real and believable without being brats. Moviemakers who think that children have to be brats in order to be real should watch this movie.
If you like this movie, see the Little House on the Prairie series (if you havent already). Also, Mary Christmas. Also, A Thanksgiving Miracle. All of these will lift your spirits and make you feel at home.
A Modern Classic - Fabulous in Every Way
Rating Point :5 Helpful Point :0
I loved this movie from the moment I first came upon it. The plot is excellent and keeps you deep into the story wondering what will happen next. The actors are marvelous, each in his/her own way, very natural - in fact it reminds me of the old Jimmy Stewart movies that were so heart-warming, but this one is contemporary with modern themes. The film takes place at Christmas which is an added bonus. But I watch this movie throughout the year, whenever it comes on the Hallmark channel or if our family needs a group hug, I just pop it into the VCR. I highly recommend this film.
